Only 20 km from Nelson, B.C., Kokanee Creek Provincial Park makes a great starting point for your Kootenay adventure.  From here the valleys and mountains are yours to explore.  With a large sandy beach, adventure playground, hot showers and a host of other amenities you’re sure to be comfortable and find plenty to do for you and your family.

The Gibson Lake trail head to Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park is only 16 km away.  From here you will have access to over 32,000 hectares of spectacular alpine wilderness.  Whether your tastes range from leisurely day hikes or gruelling multi-day treks, Kokanee Creek Provincial Park is your gateway to adventure.

A few kilometres to the east is Balfour.  Here you can catch a ride on the Osprey 2000 and cruise across Kootenay Lake to Kootenay Bay. Continuing to the north you’ll want to be sure to stop at Ainsworth Hotsprings.  Here the natural hotsprings and full service hotel can provide a relaxing break. Nearby is Cody Caves Provincial Park:  guided and fully equipped tours are available at this very unique “under ground” park. Beyond is the Village of Kaslo, home of the Kaslo Jazz Festival and the S.S. Moyie National Historic Site.

The nearby historic town of Nelson provides the best in dining, cultural and shopping opportunities with many shops catering to your recreational needs.  The restored Street Car #23 runs throughout the summer from the Prestige Inn to Lakeside Park and gives riders a scenic taste of the way things were.  The Nelson Street Fest is a popular annual summer event with locals and tourists alike.
