If heading to the beach with a good book, towel and bathing suit fits your plans, then look no further than the many lakes of the West Kootenays.

The majority of the valley bottom areas of West Kootenays is covered by lakes (Lake Revelstoke, Arrow Lakes, Slocan Lake and Kootenay Lake). The West Kootenays is also an ideal spot to enjoy water sports on beautiful, tranquil lakes.

For those who enjoy beach and water sports, the following itinerary will have something for everyone.
 

1.  Revelstoke

Within a short drive from Revelstoke, many beautiful beaches can be found along the shores of Lake Revelstoke, Upper Arrow Lake and Blanket Swimming Lagoon. Opportunities for white water rafting down the Illecillewaet River and sea kayaking on Lake Revelstoke, Arrow Lake and Williams Lake are available from the following companies:

2.  Nakusp/New Denver

The Nakusp/New Denver area also has many beautiful beaches. McDonald Creek Provincial Park has an 800 meter long sandy beach. Across the road from Rosebery Provincial Park, one can find a secluded pebbly beach on Slocan Lake, and a black gravel beach in the village of New Denver. Nakusp is known as the Valley of the Hotsprings with two nearby natural hotsprings at Nakusp Hotsprings and Halcyon Hotsprings.

3.  Castlegar

The place where locals escape to the beach in Castlegar is at Syringa Creek Provincial Park. With three beach areas, Syringa Creek is a very popular destination for those hot sunny days. For a more remote getaway, try the beautiful sandy beach at Nancy Greene Provincial Park.

4.  Trail / Rossland

In the Trail and Rossland area, beautiful sandy beaches can be found at Nancy Greene Provincial Park and Champion Lakes Provincial Park.

5.  Nelson

The best public beaches in the Nelson Area can be found at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park along the shores of Kootenay Lake, and at the waterfront park in the City of Nelson.

6.  Kaslo

Downtown Kaslo has a large sand beach that is a popular destination while staying at Davis Creek and Lost Ledge sites of Kootenay Lake Provincial Park. These parks also have their own sunny beaches for swimming and boating.
